January 2012 Oroville Tournament
Following a blistering, bellowing, and belligerent storm Friday, the first fishing tournament of the year took place Saturday at Lake Oroville. Lake Oroville is also known as Lake Edmonston Reservoir which is fed by the Feather River completed in 1967. Lake Oroville is the tallest earth-fill lake in the United States and is the second largest earth-fill dam in the world second only to the Aswan Dam in Egypt.
It was a cold morning with an on and off gentle mist with flashes of clear sky in the foreground. You could feel the tension and excitement in the air and the waffling smell of gases and oil as we blasted off at safe light. Morning intermittent gray showers filled the sky. Mother Nature was in full regalia; wolves, male and female deer, turkeys, squirrels, and a multitude of wild birds were often sighted in the coves due to the rain run-off. It is a beautiful lake. Around noon the sun came out and the temperature went up and pounds of clothing could be taken off. Fishing was tough and a variety of baits were used including swim baits, crank baits, and multitude of worms and jigs.
The winners Ken Hicks and Kyle Scanlon with 10.22lbs caught their bass with jigs and worms. They also had big fish 2.61lbs. Second place was Chris and Matt Del Porto with 5.05lbs and could not decide what they used. Third place was Joel and Bev Del Porto with 4.29lbs using crank baits and worms. Fourth place was David Mercado and Isac Johnson with 3.81lbs dropshoting with worms and Fifth place was Joe Berg and Danny Olson with 3.16lbs worms. Sixth place Stephen and Garrett Gatewood had the new president’s curse, Blank. “We will be back!!!”
Our next event is Lake Folsom on the third Saturday February 18, 2012. This is the last chance for new members or old members to sign-up. Be there early so that we can blast off at safe light. Have a great Valentine’s Day and we will meet up at Folsom.

Welcome back and Happy New Year! Since the website is not working, I will send emails until it is fixed.
I’m looking forward to fishing and sharing a positive time with you this year. I fished Oroville and the water is high and the fish were biting crank baits. Captain Norman!!! I hope we get some rain soon because the other lakes are not in the shape Oroville is. In fact I have received warning for DFG that June through September we can’t have more than six hour tournaments.
Our first tournament is at Oroville launch at Spillway (Dam); come early so that we can blast off at Safe Light. It is very important that if you are going to bring in a new member that they contact me first so that I will have time to qualify them. My telephone number is 916- 961-5906 or cell 916 601-8819.
